- Took a boat from Yarmouth NS to Boston, Massachusetts, then a Greyhound bus to Buffalo, New York
- They arrived in Buffalo with 34 dollars in their pockets.
- She worked as a waitress, salesclerk and cashier
- Retired in June 1975
- Moved to Ottawa, Ontario on February 12, 1983 to live in an apartment in the home of her niece Joan Lorraine (Pye) Ernst and her husband Walter Ernst.
